U.S. Veteran

Stanhope: Alton “Mike” Lattig passed away at home on Monday, July 16, 2012, he was 82 years of age.

Born in Dover, he lived in Rockaway before moving to Wharton in 1954 until 1986. He lived in Cranberry Lake, then Forked River and Stanhope since 1993.

Mr. Lattig retired from Picatinny Arsenal in 1986 after 31 years as a machine shop supervisor. In 1993 he worked for Heath Village Retirement Community, Hackettstown for ten years as a senior citizen van driver.

He was a Korean War Navy veteran serving on the USS Tarawa and was a member of the American Legion, Forked River.

Mike was a member of the Wharton Fire Department Active Hose Co. #1 and served as Chief of the Wharton Fire Department in 1967. He was a member of the Wharton Firemen’s Exempt Association and the NJ Firemen’s Exempt Association.

Pre-deceased by his sister: Doris Miller, two brothers: Frederick and Willard Lattig.

Survived by his wife of 57 years: Marian (Lynde)

Son: Barry Lattig and his fiancée’: Diane Hyndman of Staten Island, NY

Daughter: Marybeth DiBernard and her husband: Wayne of Stanhope

Sister: Lola Van Bree of Rockaway

Two Brothers: Floyd Lattig of TX

Kenneth Lattig of Rockaway

Four Grandchildren: Erin and Jack Lattig, Jason Siciliano and Christopher DiBernard

Visitation will be held on Thursday 6-9 PM at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St. Wharton. Funeral service will be held on Friday 11AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dover.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834 would be appreciated.
